DJControl Jogvision - First live demo in Frankfurt Musik Messe, from April 15 to 18th, 2015

Published in DJControl Jogvision

Frankfurt, April 14, 2015 - Hercules and Serato are pleased to invite you to come and check out the first ever live demo of DJControl Jogvision with Serato DJ Intro.Musikmesse, booth C44, Hall 5, Ebene 1

DJControl Jogvision, bundled with Serato DJ Intro and Serato DJ Upgrade Ready, enhances the performances put on by mobile DJs. It is the most portable DJ controller featuring in-jog displays, and the most accessible.

The display in the center of each jog wheel simultaneously indicates both the playback speed, and the position in the track. This makes it possible for DJs to look at their computer screen less often, for improved focus on mixing, faster reaction times and better syncing of tracks. DJs can now pay more attention to their music, and to the audience.

"With help from members of the DJ community, our goal in designing this controller was to produce the best jog wheels in our product range, whose feel, handling and visual indicators allow for the best performances when mixing and scratching," explains Claude Guillemot, CEO of Guillemot Corporation S.A. "This has also been our motivation in working with Serato, whose software applications are perfect in terms of providing the very best experience with this new controller. Our work together has been remarkable, and we are very happy with the end results. We would like to thank all of Serato’s teams for the excellent quality of our interactions with them."

Controls SERATO DJ Intro (available for download free of charge)
SERATO DJ Upgrade Ready (optional)

Two circular displays per deck
Blue ring: speed and scratch indicator
White ring: position indicator
Perfect for scratching: the display indicates either the current scratch positon, or the scratch amplitude (to return to the starting point)

Displays emulating the rotation of a motorized platter
The blue ring rotates at 33
â…“ RPM
As on professional DJ CD players, the blue ring’s rotation speed changes when the DJ alters the pitch
Incorporating a circuit of LEDs, the display provides faster performance than an LCD, which is limited by its refresh rate

Solidly-built, comfortable DJ controller
Large 5.9" / 15 cm jog wheels featuring touch detection
Sturdy 17.9 x 10.0" / 45.5 x 25.4 cm body
2 sets of 4 progressive pads illuminated with 4 different lighting colors (each color indicates a control type)
AIR Control for contactless control of the low-pass filter effect: the audience sees the DJ’s hand movements, thanks to the AIR Control’s 11.8" / 30 cm range

Audio design engineered for performance
24-bit/96 kHz resolution
Dual Master outputs (2 RCA + 1/8" stereo) and Booth output (2 RCA)
Headphones output
1/4" microphone input
1/8" stereo line input

DJs Karla Kenya and DJ Spawn will perform live and demo DJControl Jogvision with Serato DJ Intro for the first time ever at the Hercules Musikmesse booth. Don’t miss this exciting event and the opportunity to interact with these two DJs.

Hercules announces DJControl Jogvision on CES Las Vegas, January 6th, 2015

Published in DJControl Jogvision

At CES 2015 in Las Vegas, Hercules - a leader in mobile DJ controllers - is thrilled to announce DJControl Jogvision: the 2-deck controller which is set to change the way that DJs perform using a computer. DJControl Jogvision is bundled with the Serato DJ Intro mixing software.

DJControl Jogvision is the first mobile DJ controller to feature a display in the centre of each jog wheel, simultaneously indicating both the playback speed and position in the track at a glance.

These displays allow DJs to spend less time looking at a computer screen, for enhanced focus, faster responsiveness and better track syncing - paying more attention to the music and their audience instead.

While a track is playing, the screen on each jog wheel displays 2 easy-to-read concentric rings:

- the larger ring (on the outer edge of the screen) rotates like a motor-driven 33â…“ or 45 rpm turntable, with the rotation speed varying according to the pitch adjustment; and
- the smaller ring (in the centre) indicates the position within the track, represented by way of 16 segments: the number of illuminated segments shows the current position in the track - from 1 segment at the beginning, to 16 segments at the end.

When scratching, the screens guide the DJ by indicating the amount of angular displacement: in the display, the DJ sees the position that his or her hand can return to.

By allowing DJs to intuitively perform based on what they see right at their fingertips, and by offering precision and speed unmatched in this sector of mobile DJing, DJControl Jogvision has been named a 2015 CES Innovation Awards Honoree.

Displays built into the jog wheels, for less time spent staring at a computer screen

Computers have taken their place in the world of DJing in the same way as CD players and vinyl turntables. However, DJs often lament the fact that having to keep on looking at a computer screen is distracting - constantly turning their gaze to see what’s taking place on the computer, instead of checking out the crowd or focusing on their hands while mixing.

Up until now, DJs have been forced to watch a computer screen in order to see at what speed a track is playing, how much time remains before the end of the track, or - when scratching - to easily locate a scratch position.

The dual displays on the DJControl Jogvision’s jog wheels replace all of this information in the DJ’s eyes: the larger ring turns at the track’s playback speed, based on a speed of 33â…“ rpm, while the smaller ring indicates the position of the cursor in the track (1 illuminated segment = start of the track, 16 illuminated segments = end of the track, 8 illuminated segments = middle of the track). And while scratching, the larger ring shows the amount of angular displacement, allowing the DJ to easily locate scratch positions.

Position in the audio track Playback speed based on 33â…“ rpm

Audio design customized for mobile DJing

DJControl Jogvision includes a built-in audio interface with resolution of 24-bit/96 kHz, and features:
- dual master outputs, allowing for the connection of speakers to play music for the audience, plus booth speakers (i.e. monitoring speakers for the DJ),
- a headphone output for previewing tracks,
- a microphone input for talking to the crowd,
- a line input for connecting an external audio source.
In this way, DJControl Jogvision lets DJs enjoy high-quality sound everywhere: in the studio, at concerts, in clubs, while hosting an event or at parties with friends.

Creativity meets elegance

The 2 sets of 4 drum-style pads allow the DJ to trigger audio samples or jump from cue point to cue point, just by tapping on the pads. Variable-colored backlighting shows the DJ which command is assigned to a pad.

The Air Control function is a contactless sensor, which allows the DJ to control effects in real time simply by varying the distance between his or her hand and the sensor: it works just like magic, and lets DJs perform these gestures at a height at which they can be seen by the whole audience.

The first Hercules DJ controller bundled with Serato DJ Intro

DJControl Jogvision comes bundled with Serato DJ Intro: designed for music lovers, Serato DJ Intro allows for 2-deck digital music mixing on a PC or Mac, to which DJControl Jogvision is connected.

To check it out for yourself, please join us at CES Las Vegas, the Venetian Hotel, Veronese 2504 meeting room, from January 6th to 9th, 2015.

Play a mix on a bluetooth speaker while previewing on wired headphones in Mac OS

Published in DJConsole RMX2

Wired headphones are generally recommended for DJing since wired headphones have no latency, while most bluetooth headphones have a latency which can disturb the DeeJay operations.

Bluetooth speakers can be used in DJing to play the music for the audience : bluetooth latency is not disturbing for the audience.

Here is a process on Mac OS to use
- a bluetooth speaker for the audience,
- and wired headphones for the DeeJay preview.

1) Connect the bluetooth speaker to the Mac
Go in Preference > Bluetooth and pair the Bluetooth speaker

2) If your audio interface control panel has a menu to set the headphones on the channel 1-2, set the headphones channel on 1-2.

3) Go in Utilities and run Audio MIDI Setup

4) In the Audio MIDI Setup, go to Window Audio devices, and create an aggregate device in clicking on the + button on bottom left

5) In the Aggregate device, add
- first, the Bluetooth speaker
- second, your audio interface device.

6) Click on Configure Speakers (bottom right of the window) and set:
- Aggregate Device as Multichannel: Quadriphonic
- Front: channel 1 and 2
- Rear : channel 3 and 4

7) In your DJ software, in the sound setup, set:
- Sound Card: Aggregate Device
- Outputs
   Master: Channel 1&2
   Headphones:  Channel 3&4

You can now
- play your mix on the bluetooth speaker for the audience
- preview your mix in your headphones.

Remark: you can
1) neither use the microphone connected to the audio interface, as the microphone input is not connected to the bluetooth speaker,
2) nor use the output 1-2 of your audio interface to play the mix on wired speakers: your master output is your bluetooth speaker, while the output 1-2 of your audio interface plays the preview.

They can also view the tracks, artists or special messages that their party’s attendees would like to hear. Customized playlists for unforgettable parties - for everyone!

Locking your DJ controller

Published in DJ Control Air+

Hercules DJControl Instinct, DJ Control Air and DJ Control Air+ have a hole on their rear panel compatible with cable locks often called Kensington locks.

Kensington (http://www.kensington.com) has defined a format of locks cable for computers which is a standard to prevent the removal of many devices. http://www.kensington.com/us/us/4482/locks#.VBMCzmOwTpc

You can use this type of cable lock to attach your DJ controller if you perform in public areas and take a break: the lock prevents the removal of your mobile DJ controller while you are out.

Here is how you can use this type lock hole with DJControl Air+.

1) Remove the rubber cap covering the hole.

2) Take your lock cable, wind it around a non-removable element (as a bar), pass the lock in the loop on the other end of the cable.

3) Detail of the lock

4) Insert the lock in the hole

5) Turn the key

6) Remove the key. The controller is locked

Royalty-Free Music Sites

Published in DJConsole RMX2

As many users of the forum look for royalty-free music tracks, hereafter are some sites distributing royalty free music tracks.

The way you can use royalty-free tracks is not always the same, but it is generally:
  • you can use the music for free in non commercial use if you grant the music creator the credit for the music according to Creative Commons license,
  • or you can buy the music once for commercial use,
  • and you can never resell this music.

It is called royalty-free not because it is always free, but because if you have to pay for it, you pay once, you don't have to pay for each use of the same track.

DJs can either connect speakers to the iPad® via a wired connection or wirelessly if using a Bluetooth® speaker, making it possible to mix without any cables at all for the ultimate in DJing freedom!

The DJUCEDTM DJW app has been specially designed for the Hercules DJControlWave, and was developed to function in perfect harmony with the controller (the app is available for free on the App Store).
