ASIO won't play sound in windows xp?

 hi, i have recently upgraded the firmware and drivers for my Hercules DJ controller MK2.
When using Virtual DJ 5.1 i can set my hercules to asio and sound plays out fine but when the Hercules is set on ASIO i cannot hear sound from other programs ie. firefox, media player etc... it does however work on normal mode WDM

any ideas?

 Hello Morebucks,

It is logical: Firefox, Media Player, iTunes, games, ... and most multimedia software don't support ASIO, so if the DJ Console Mk2 is in ASIO, they fail to play music on this audio device, so, for multimedia software, you must always switch your DJ Console Mk2 in WDM.

Only music software (as VirtualDJ, Traktor, Cubase, Deckadance, Fruity Loops... ) operate in ASIO, so 95% of the software in a computer don't support ASIO, and to get sound with these software, you must set the DJ Console Mk2 in WDM.

 Thanks man, makes sense.
Although i'm sure my Mk1 did work in ASIO all the time. Has been a while since i last used it though so maybe i'm mistaken

DJ Console Mk1 could operate in ASIO, of course, but I think VirtualDJ 1 DJC was operating in WDM mode by default instead of ASIO.

VirtualDJ 3 DJC can operate in ASIO and in WDM:
- if, in VirtualDJ sound setup mode, you check the box "Apply EQ on external input", VirtualDJ 3 DJC switches the DJ Console Mk2 in ASIO,
- if, in VirtualDJ sound setup mode, you uncheck the box "Apply EQ on external input", VirtualDJ 3 DJC switches the DJ Console Mk2 in WDM.
