I'm about to get into digital dj'ing for the first time. I am considering purchasing the DJ Control MP3 e2. I know that this unit requires your computer to us a 5.1 Sound Card. I'd like any advice on a good external 5.1 Sound Card. I want an external one because I have 3 computers and want to be able to use it with any one of my PCs depending on where I feel like mixing at that time. Also I'm hoping not to to spend more than $20 if that's possible. Let me know what you would recommend. I'm using both Windows XP and Vista.

Thanks

Hello PRsolNYC,

For USD 20, you may have a decent USB sound card with 5.1 outputs, as:
- Hercules Muse Pocket Lt
http://www.hercules.com/uk/Sound-Cards/bdd/p/56/muse-pocket-lt/
- BudgetGadget 5.1 sound card in USB
http://www.budgetgadgets.com/channel-external-sound-card-p-3078.html
http://www.amazon.com/Channel-External-Sound-Laptop-Notebook/dp/B001LI MH6U/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1254748889&sr=1- 6
- Terratec Aureon 5.1 sound card
http://www.terratec.net/en/products/technical-data/produkte_technische _daten_en_3232.html
but don't expect a great sound card at this price, it is just a basic entry level sound card with multiple-channel outputs.

If you see cheaper sound cards, make sure it is not a virtual 5.1 or virtual 7.1 sound card: Chinese no name manufacturers sell low cost virtual 5.1 or 7.1 sound card, for example on Ebay, at a few USD, but they only play 1 stereo channel, which is supposed to virtualize a 5.1 of 7.1 sound but is only stereo, while you need a hardware 4-channel or 5.1 or 7.1 output, not a stereo output with a virtual surround output.

Answering to technical questions with
- more technical details than needed is NEVER a problem,
- less technical details than needed is ALWAYS a problem
